Although a full-fledged field survey would appear to be hard to conduct in the time allotted to the option, the students will be asked to conduct a qualitative preliminary survey covering a clearly demarcated social milieu or area, holding a series of a few interviews that will be annotated and contextualised on the basis of reading material that will enable them to enhance their knowledge of the milieu concerned. The option will be more readily accessible, albeit not restricted, to students who have taken courses in sociology, ethnology or anthropology.
